The project began with a request for rich, 3D renderings to accompany work for a brand that has become synonymous with the good coffee landscape of South Africa. Bootleggers began in 2012 and is renowned for its slick but cosy aesthetics, which welcome families, Sunday breakfast runs, cyclists and lovers on Sunday afternoon strolls alike. The restaurant is made even more striking because of its location: on a busy street in the valley of picturesque Franschhoek, in the Western Cape.
The focus of this project was primarily to provide expansion for an outdoor deck and eating area that had recently been washed away by flooding. The water damage allowed for an opportunity to reimagine the area in a way that could accommodate a growing clientele and ensure that customers could enjoy their meals under treed canopies and in the dappled light of mountain surrounds. Pedestrians, drivers, and cyclists are welcomed inside with inviting street access, and the deck extends the charming open-plan interior and spills the good vibes into a comfortable outside area. The aesthetics of stressed wooden panels and luxury gold, cream and black hues offer a glamorous backdrop for easy conversation and superior hospitality.
