Despite being a beautiful home on a sprawling well-treed stand, there was a disconnect between the sunken pool level and the house. The poor translation between the exterior and interior meant that the spaces felt dislocated from one another, and the outside space soon became neglected. This was a particularly sad reality, given how frequently homes in Johannesburg suburbs are used to host and entertain guests, colleagues, family and friends alike. In order to combat the tension between domestic spaces, Lucid Architecture lifted the pool area two full metres!

We provided a clear vision for a new patio and built-in braai area that allowed for a seamless social spill between the kitchen, and the dining room, to the warm muggy evenings outside under fairy lights. This new design also promoted access from all bedrooms, which fell along the poolside of the house. The bedrooms can access a deck leading out to the garden and a luxurious rim-flow pool. Soft lighting, embedded in the floor, led the walker outside like a sire song. The home boasts the feel of a boutique hotel – where comfortable and uninterrupted migration to the spoils of the outside is seamless.
