Naidoo | Serengeti Golf Estate

(Gauteng Province, SA)

The Naidoo home on the Serengeti Estate was a careful interplay of public and private space. The fairway on which the home resides is abuzz with golfers’ foot traffic, so care was taken to maximise exposure to the visual delights of sweeping green hills while ensuring that the family preserves the privacy needed for comfortable nuclear living. The fairway-facing facade has a striking wall of floor-to-ceiling glass to ensure both light and sprawling views. The North-facing facade, at street level, is entirely blocked off, shifting the living and dining zones towards the garden spaces.

The lush courtyard acts as a buffer between the fairway during the business of play so that the family can still enjoy time outside. The courtyard also allows streaming light to fill the living and dining spaces. The design language of the site celebrates horizontal planes, as clear storey light windows are inserted with organic ease between the roof slabs, continuing the efforts to light up the space with as much natural light as possible. The solarium on the roof, which also overlooks the fairway, acts as a magic portal to stunning 360° views of the surrounding Serengeti golfing plains. There are two garages on site, and the guest suite on the Northern wing of the house can be separated as a stand-alone unit with its own entry point.
