Hope Village Housing | Aloe Ridge

(Gauteng Province, SA)

Hope Village has a long-term vision of creating a sustainable lifestyle village for people committed to caring for abandoned babies in Johannesburg, South Africa. To get them started, Lucid Architecture began with three design typologies for staff housing that would foster a space to nurture a warm nuclear family but also create stylistic design cohesion across the village as it grows.

By positioning the homes along the grand North slope, the homes have sweeping views of the golden hues so typical of the bushveld aesthetic. As part of environmental consciousness, many of the building materials, such as the stumble blocks, were manufactured on-site. The proportions of the homes took advantage of the dimensions of the bricks. The exposed trusses and feature brick walls are features that elevate the clean design.
