(Limpopo Province, SA)
Drenched in light, the new Jabulani Africa Ministries’ Leadership training facility takes full advantage of the sprawling savannah views of the Shikwaru Estate in Limpopo, South Africa. The site is an expansive 1000m2, and the building is located within the existing canopy footprint. The client was thrilled with the site’s plural functionality that echoed its vision to reach and serve people.
The heart of the facility is a double-volume living and dining hub where community and connection are made easy. The exposed trusses give the room an earthy feel as natural light streams into the space. On the floor level of the left and right wings are North-facing comfortable dormitories with en-suit ablutions, which ensure privacy in community living. Further to the accommodation offered in the Shikwaru hub are stand-alone family-friendly apartments.
The second floor of each wing fosters productivity of all kinds. Warm North-facing offices and private work-stations look onto the stretching highveld plains. Teaching facilities have the convenience of fold-away doors that open up to a balcony that offers a view South onto a ridge, allowing the fragrant blooms of local flora to circulate indoors. The building functions in conscious partnership with the existing trees and animal habitats – being careful not to disturb life while creating its own as a leadership facility.
