Reaching A Generation | Shikwaru Chapel

(Limpopo Province, SA)

The front facade of Shikwaru Estate’s new 185m2 chapel is a modern nod to the stained glass window panels of churches of bygone eras. The glasswork and fold-away doors allow for a near-panoramic view of the watering hole and bushveld, respectively, on either side of the church. The deck overlooks the sun setting across the water – facilitating a seamless transition between the interior and external spaces.

Guests are able to spill out from the ceremony into celebrations. Wood, stone, and glass are the primary textures that continue the dialogue with nature that the clients were after in their request for a pavilion-style design. As the sun moves across the sky, the slatted louvers set the stage for a playful dalliance between light and shadow as the heartfelt exchange of vows happens within.
