van Lieshout | Mondeor

Transforming a kitchen can have a liberating impact on the feel of a home. The Mondeor home, while expansive and generous in other areas of the house, did not originally boast a comfortable kitchen. The kitchen was initially small, dark and cramped and had a very limited countertop space and was excluded from the rest of the house. The kitchen also missed out on the stretched views that were open to the East-facing facade of the house. To maximise access to the views and also allow for an internal liberation and reclamation of space, Lucid broke away much of the non-vital and non-load-bearing walls and created an open-plan kitchen and dining area. This allowed anyone in the kitchen not only to access scintillating conversations between guests in the dining room but also to have access to sweeping views of the majestic Klipriversberg Nature Reserve.
